| Huffman Aviation of Burleson, Texas is a small flight school with quality exceeeding that of any school you can think of, large or small. Jake Huffman, the chief pilot, has nearly 17,000 hours of flight time including more than 14,000 in light aircraft. Flying, and teaching flying are his passions. He owns and operates a C-152, C-172, C-182 (equipped for glass panel transition), and a PA28-180, and has access to complex and twin engine aircraft for those seeking advanced ratings. Give him a call, ask all the questions you want. You will get straight answers with no hidden agendas and realistic quotes on the cost of training. |

High Flight
Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of earth
And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings
Sunward I've climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth
Of sun-split clouds - and done a hundred things
You have not dreamed of - wheeled and soared and swung
High in the sunlit silence. Hov'ring there
I've chased the shouting wind along, and flung
My eager craft through footless halls of air.
Up, up the long delirious, burning blue,
I've topped the windswept heights with easy grace
Where never lark, or even eagle flew -
And, while with silent lifting mind I've trod
The high untresspassed sanctity of space,
Put out my hand and touched the face of God.
John Gillespie Magee, Jr.

Huffman Aviation is pleased to support Grace Flight of America.
As stated on their web site:
"The mission of Grace Flight of America is to help people in need of free air transportation for medical and humanitarian purposes. It is our goal to remove the transportation burden from patients so they can get to specialized medical treatment not available to them locally and focus on getting well. Many of our patients do not have access to conventional transportation or are too ill to drive or fly commercially. Grace Flight is here to help! Completely free of charge! Grace Flight of America relies completely on volunteer pilots and donations from individuals, foundations, clubs and corporations."
We are fortunate to be able to help in this wonderful cause. Several of our staff are actively envolved in the Volunteer Pilot program for Grace Flight.

| Jake Huffman -- Owner and Chief Pilot Jake graduated from the United States Air Force Academy in 1971, later earned an MBA, and has nearly 18,000 flying hours gained in 41 years of flying, including 22 great years in the US Air Force, mainly in B-52s. Since retiring from the Air Force, he has flown dental and medical teams into Mexico more than twenty times in the last twenty years. In early 2010 he redirected his efforts and now flies for Angel Flight/Grace Flight, normally taking at least one mission a month. It is a blessing to be able to continue to serve the people of this country by using the talents God has given him. In addition, he still supports mission teams for his church, donates his time to local hospital fundraisers and gives career day presentations in public schools. Since 1986 he has trained about a thousand pilots for FAA certificates, ratings, and endorsements. Some of those people have qualified to be Air Force pilots, two are now U-2 pilots, one just graduated from the Air Force Academy where he was Captain of the cadet flying team, and two are missionary pilots overseas. He is also certified to teach Math in Texas and tutors those looking for help. Besides his wife and granddaughter, I guess you could say service, flying and teaching are his passions! | view all images |
| | Drew Freeman - Certificated Flight Instructor If you are looking for one of the very best flight instructors in the entire country, then look no further. Drew has instructed for us now for two years, and he is an incredible asset to this operation. When you fly with Drew, you will be flying with someone who is as close to a "natural" pilot as anyone I have ever met. Drew, it is a privilege to have you as part of our team! | view all images |
| | Tom Moore- Certificated Flight Instructor Tom graduated from the Air Force Academy several years after Jake and spent 20 years in the Air Force flying fighters and promoting safety. As you might expect, Tom is filled with a love of flying, especially when it is done well and safely, and thoroughly enjoys passing along his many years of experience through flight instruction at Huffman Aviation. By the way, if you want to know who the world's greatest fighter pilot is, just ask him! | |
| | Mike Montefusco - Certificated Flight Instructor Mike comes to us as a long time pilot and flight instructor. His background includes lots of time in the Air Force and on the civilian side assuring the right equipment and capabilities get into the right hands to help defend our nation. With a natural talent for teaching, Mike is an great addition to our team at Huffman Aviation. | |
| | Cathy Bell - Office Manager Cathy comes to us with a pretty fair background in aviation acquired as she has watched and encouraged her sons through flight training. She is the one you will talk to for scheduling, questions about your account, and most other subjects. In a very real sense, we all work for Cathy, and she keeps things moving. Ask her what she knows about the athletic abilities required for pole vaulting, but only if you have a while to visit! | |
| | Roy Martin - Webmaster Roy came to Huffman Aviation as a private pilot and has expanded his knowledge base by adding an Instrument Rating, and both Complex and High Performance endorsements. He now volunteers as a pilot for Grace Flight of America whose mission is to help people in need of air transportation for medical and humanitarian purposes. Roy also serves as our Webmaster when he is not out flying. | view all images |
| | Gene Stallings - A&P Mechanic Gene has a strong background in Navy flight ops and maintenance, plus significant time in the general aviation industry. Now he is here with us, bringing with him a great work ethic and goal oriented approach to life that is so typical of prior military. What a strong addition he is to our team! When I can find a better A&P I will hire him/her...but I won't find a better one. In the meantime I am glad to have this guy working for us. | view all images |
| | Stephen Hale - Flight Instructor Stephen is a graduate of Embry Riddle, and is currently working through the A&P program at Tarrant County College. I brought him on board because he loves to work with people, loves to fly airplanes, and is pretty good at teaching flying. We are glad to have his fresh approach to things, and are enjoying a rewarding relationship with him. You will like him, too, when you get to fly with him. Ask him about mission flying, 'cause that is where I think he wants to be some day. | |

The Cessna 172 is a well designed all purpose airplane: easy enough to fly that you can learn to fly in one; large enough to fit three normal sized adults with some baggage; fast enough that you prefer to fly instead of drive; more economical than the airlines when more than one person is on board. |

The C-182 can take you to higher altitudes, longer distances, faster and further than the smaller models of Cessnas. This particular airplane is exquisitely well equipped for glass panel operations, long cross countries, and high performance training. It has been to the Grand Canyon twice in 2011 and drew high praise for performance and reliability. |

NEW! Garmin 430 on board! Our Cherokee, with 180 horsepower, will push you back in your seat when you bring up the throttle for takeoff. And if you like the incredible view of the sky offered by low wing aircraft, you will love this great Piper product. A very stable instrument flying platform, the Hershey Bar wing Cherokee has been known for years as a wonderful cross country and IFR airplane. Come on out and give it a try, we think you will appreciate its fine qualities. It is tough to find another aircraft with this kind of load carrying capacity, range, and good IFR avionics. Whether you want to work on an instrument rating or take a long cross country, or anything in between, this is a superb airplane for the job! |

We brought this great little Cessna 150 in to help hold down the cost of flying. This is a good flying machine, now as nicely finished out as the rest of our fleet. Here you have an excellent way to get a Private Pilot Certificate or build your flying experience at a cost much less than you will find elsewhere. |

Abilene, TX |
KABI |
| | Dated: 2009-01-28 Abiline Aero is a great FBO with two courtesy cars and excellent facilities. Five minute drive to Lytle Land and Cattle Company when you want a good steak. Joe Allen's BBQ is a little further in to town on the same street. Good avionics shop in the hanger at Abilene Aero. Expect fuel prices to be on the high side in accordance with the good service and facilities they make available. |
Altus, OK |
KAXS |
| | Real fine FBO manned by good people with great attitudes. Two good courtesy cars available. Now, if only there was a good restaurant nearby... |
Bellingham, WA |
KBLI |
| | Beautiful area on the Puget Sound. Two competing FBOs exist side by side in the small GA terminal, and there is self serve fuel across the ramp if you want to do it yourself and save some money. Nearby restaurants pretty much don't exist, but a local chain motel was glad to pick us up from the terminal and return us in the AM. |
Boerne Stage |
5C1 |
| | Privately owned and operated for many years. Very friendly folks and reasonable fuel prices. First 500 feet or so of the runway is available for takeoff only, so don't come up short on approach. Good luck finding the place by car from US 281, and vice versa. Great restaurant out on 281, but make sure to get a good map and directions. |
Brady, TX |
KBBD |
| | Dated: 2009-05-11 Nice clean FBO. Courtesy car available. We ate at a local restaurant on the town square with good staff and average food. As of May 2009 that place is now closed, but I am told Hard 8 BBQ has opened. If it is anything like their Stephenville restaurant, it will be worth a visit. Use caution, the airport is underneath the Brady MOA, and Army helicopters routinely fly in for food and fuel. Houston Center cannot issue an IFR clearance for an approach if the MOA is hot, so plan to visit on a VFR day. |
Breckenridge, TX |
KBKD |
| | Courtesy car available, good BBQ place on the main drag just on the south side of downtown. Ezell Aviation on field restores warbirds, but please don't just walk in through their hanger doors because of all the delicate and expensive restoration work in progress at any given time. Call ahead and you will find they are as friendly as anyone in a small Texas town. A new AWOS is great to have in this out of the way airport. |
Brenhem, TX |
11R |
| | Diner, 50s style, in the FBO draws a good crowd for lunch. Recommend you order the Blue Bell milkshake before you eat because it might just fill you up before you even order the hamburger and fries. |
Burnet, TX |
KBMQ |
| | Faulkners FBO is a class operation- friendly folks and a good facility. They have a courtesy car and were glad to offer it, but asked us to use it only in the city of Burnet. Down the road a few miles is Marble Falls and the Bluebonnet Cafe where the breakfast meal is not to be missed. Good luck getting there without the car, though. On field is a small air museum where the hours seem to be a bit limited. By the way, Burnet rhymes with durn it. Just ask the locals, they will tell you. |
Clarksville, TX |
KLBR |
| | Appears to be a nice small Texas town from the air. We could find no evidence of support facilities once we landed, so we didn't stay long. Recommend you have someone pick you up after you land, since there is no apparent FBO and it looks like it is a bit of a hike into town. |
Cleburne, TX |
KCPT |
| | The city of Cleburne has put in 24 hr self serve fuel pumps, and their price is quite competitive compared to other airports in the area. If you want someone to fill the tanks for you, Sam Ball, who has been on Cleburne longer than anyone can remember, is still there and will do the job for you for a slightly higher price, assuming you are there during normal business hours. Both Sam and the city have modest facilities available to pilots, and the restrooms on the back side of the city FBO are open after normal business hours. |
Coleman, TX |
KCOM |
| | This was a very active training facility during WWII--my father in law spent some time there before going overseas as a P-40 pilot. The FBO is fairly basic, but we were able to get a courtesy car and venture through the town a while before settling in to a fairly nice restaurant near the airport. |
College Station, TX |
KCLL |
| | Excellent facility, very helpful line personnel. I am told they have a courtesy car, though I have not used it. If there is a major sporting event (ie football) you will find the ramp is full. Note: when you call ground for your IFR clearance, be ready to copy right away. They assume you have pencil in hand when you call. |
Colorado Springs, CO |
KCOS |
| | Even with the high cost of fuel at Colorado Jet Center, this is a great FBO. Very friendly staff, excellent facilities, hanger space if you need it to avoid hail storms, and what could possibly top the view of Pike's Peak from the ramp? In the past I have had the FBO arrange a rental car and hotel room, and they have normally done so without a hitch. If you will require hanger space, I recommend you call ahead for a reservation. Otherwise there are ample tiedowns. Since this is the closest airport with services for me when I visit my alma mater, I am sure glad to deal with such a good bunch of people at an airport with lots of approaches, long runways, etc. |
Corsicana, TX |
KCRS |
| | Good FBO with a couple of rooms set aside for a mini-museum devoted to the role of the airport during WWII. Spend a few minutes in those rooms, you will be glad you did. Have not asked about a courtesy car, but I would like to get to the Russell-Stover factory outlet which is nearby--if you like chocolate, that is a great [?] place to visit. Employees tell me there are plans to restore some of the area on the street side of the FBO to better depict what it looked like during the war. |
Dumas, TX |
KDUX |
| | Self serve fuel at a reasonable price, and not a lot else here at Dumas. A small vending machine is about all there is for food. Did not ask about a courtesy car since we were on a quick turn, but the town is less than a mile away and probably has some good local eateries. |
Duncan, OK |
KDUC |
| | Jim and Linda Brewer are just wonderful people. When we stopped in with an engine problem late one recent afternoon, Jim got right on it. We had the airplane back out of there the next day, with a bill for services that was quite reasonable. Linda tells me there is a wonderful BBQ restaurant nearby, so we plan to return soon--this time to sample the food instead of the A&P resources! |
Durango, CO |
KDRO |
| | Durango CO is surprising to me because of the amount of traffic, yet they don't have a tower. Durango Jet Center has great linemen, some of the friendliest and most helpful we have run across anywhere. Wish the fuel prices were as good as the personnel. Lots to see and do in the area, including the Durango-Silverton narrow gage railroad. We drove the route to Silverton and enjoyed some spectacular scenery. You won't regret a trip to Durango, as long as you give yourself time to drink in some of what they have to offer. |
Eastland, TX |
KETN |
| | Eastland seems to be a quiet place, but the guy who runs the airport and FBO is a wonderful example of a human being. I know of several people who put in to KETN with airplane problems, and he was there at all hours of day and night to help. I have yet to try any restaurants in town, though there is supposed to be a courtesy car available for that purpose. |
Edinburg, TX |
KEBG |
| | Are you in the Valley and need fuel--EBG works hard to be the best value around. The airport manager is a wonderful, friendly lady. She keeps a very nice facility, and only the lack of nearby restaurants keeps EBG from drawing a 5 star rating. I am not certain if they have a courtesy car yet. Fuel is self serve. |
Fort Worth, TX |
KFWS |
| | Dated: 2009-02-18 Spinks Airport has great facilities with friendly tower folks and new FBO. The linemen are as good as I have seen anywhere. No restaurant on the field, but many nearby. FBO has a courtesy car, so you can walk to some restaurants or use the car to reach those across the freeway. Shell Self serve fuel is available [at a price significantly less than off the truck] south of the southwest T-hangers and just east of the turf runway (17L-35R). Ground will be happy to give progressive taxi to help you find the fuel. Signage on taxiways is less than what you might expect at an airport this nice, but we have been promised improvements. Great grass runway if you want that kind of practice. Excellent and responsive maintenance available for transients and based aircraft at CAM Maintenance on Taxiway C east of the runways. Huffman Aviation is in the blue hanger near the NEXRAD radome on the east side. |
Fredericksburg, TX |
T82 |
| | Dated: 2009-02-07 Decent field with instrument approaches if needed. Be prepared for significant crosswinds, as they frequently exist according to the locals. Good facilities with very friendly and helpful folks. No courtesy cars, but rentals are available or the FBO will call a cab for you (town is too far to walk).
The Hanger Hotel is right on the field, has great decor and atmosphere and is unique in our experience. We dropped into the Airport Diner (also on the field) for coffee but didn't eat, as we wanted to go to town and have German cuisine.
Don't miss a trip to town. Plenty to do with many small shops, eateries, and attractions within walking distance once you get there. The National Museum of the Pacific War (WWII) is definitely worth visiting. Allow plenty of time, as you could easily spend several hours exploring.
Galveston, TX |
KGLS |
| | I would give Galveston 5 stars but the airport is still recovering from the hurricane. Galveston can only be reached VFR or by GPS approaches until further notice. The folks at the FBO are wonderful-helpful, friendly, willing to lend a hand. They gave us a ride via courtesy car to the cruise line terminal, and picked us up upon return. No landing or parking fees. No hangers, either. Good news is, hail is rare around there, though rainfall is to be expected. If you had experience with the previous FBO, like me, and weren't impressed--take heart, this new crowd is on the ball and cares about you. The air museum is on the mend, also. I visited the museum prior to the storm, and it was great. Here is hoping the airport gets its facilities back soon, and here is praise for the folks at Galveston Air. |
Georgetown, TX |
KGTU |
| | Excellent, city run FBO with self serve fuel at competitive prices. Limited supply of charts available at the terminal (mainly local sectional charts.) This airfield has a rich history dating from the 1940s and recently opened a control tower with exceptionally long hours of operation (0700-2300 local.) Be aware of the residential neighborhoods close in to the field and use noise abatement procedures to the extent flight safety will permit. |
Graham, TX |
KRPH |
| | Nice, long runway 3-21 plus a shorter, newly resurfaced 18-35. Please note the displaced threshold for 18, if you get too low on final you might punch a hold in the side of an eighteen wheeler. Only one instrument approach. Small but pleasant FBO with a courtesy car and self serve fuel. So far I haven't tried anything but the Dairy Queen across the street, but I need to get out into town and see what else Graham has to offer. |
Granbury, TX |
KGDJ |
| | If you are looking for one of the few remaining airports featuring a spit and whittle club, here it is. You will almost always find folks sitting around the FBO ready and willing to talk airplanes. Granbury normally has very competitive fuel prices, and they will usually assist with fueling if you so desire. |
Greenville, TX |
KGVT |
| | Dated: 2010-05-14 Fuel price is fantastic! Pleasant FBO building with all the facilities you need to check weather, file, or just rest for a bit. FBO sits on the far south end of the ramp, West side. Don't get into the ramp area belonging to L3 for modifying military airplanes, it won't go over well with local authorities. Great Aero Club there called Majors Flying Club. If you live near there, check em out--they are active and seeking quality in all they do. Tower advertises being open weekdays only, though they may open up all of a sudden on weekends if military traffic necessitates. This entry current as of 05.14.2010. |
Gustavus, AK |
PAGS |
| | I would rate this one 5 star except the fuel is really expensive (we paid $6.85/gal in June 2010). Doc Pedersen is the airport manager, fire chief, and about 20 other jobs in this rather small community. We stayed at the Glacier Bay Lodge, currently run by Aramark for the Natl Park Service, and we would recommend it. The boat tour of Glacier Bay was great, the forest walk with a Park Ranger was incredible, the food at the Lodge was quite good, and the Aramark employees were top notch to a person. Instrument approaches are good and will likely get you in except in the worst conditions. Be aware Anchorage Center cannot see you below 7000 msl, so the airport is one in one out when you are IFR. |
Hillsboro, TX |
KINJ |
| | Normally competitive fuel prices with self serve (assisted during normal duty hours.) Courtesy car available if you need to get to town for food or to visit the outlet mall. Airport manager is a great guy and very helpful. Use caution, they have an active parachuting operation on field. |
Junction, TX |
KJCT |
| | Friendly folks at the FBO have provided a ride to Cooper's BBQ each time I have visited. There is at least one other BBQ place in town on the south side of Interstate 10 though I haven't eaten there for ten years or more. Runway and ramp in good shape. |
Juneau, AK |
PAJN |
| | There is only one FBO on field, Aero Services, and they do a great job. Fuel is expensive, but then, it is Alaska, after all! FBO was glad to give us the crew car and directions to a pretty good nearby restaurant. Please note, the approaches only come in from the west, and both leave you about 2000 agl, so you won't get in or out in marginal weather. Alaska Airlines has private approaches arriving from the east that help them get in and out in any weather. Gustavus is 30 nm west and has approaches that get you much lower, so that might be an alternate for you IFR drivers. Be aware, there are lots of VFR charter tour operators on field, especially helicopters, plus a seaplane pond south of the runway, so Juneau is a hopping place! Keep your eyes and ears open around this place. Please note, Alaska ICAO airport identifiers begin with a P (Pacific), so don't try to enter them into your GPS using a K prefix. |
La Grange, TX |
3T5 |
| | Ramp and runways have evidently recently been resealed. Plenty of tie downs complete with ropes and chocks. FBO does not appear to be manned, but self serve fuel is available. Wish we could have stayed longer to try out a local restaurant. |
Las Vegas, NM |
KLVS |
| | When we arrived in the middle of an afternoon, we found the city of Las Vegas runs this FBO, and after some prodding they produced a fueler and took care of us. The terminal is a bit on the bare side, though everything we needed was eventually available. Unfortunately, when we arrived early the next morning to depart, the facility was locked up tight. Good thing we had persisted in getting the airplane fueled the day before. Watch out for high elevation and high density altitude as this airport sits above 6000 MSL. The airport is not just real close to town, so ensure you arrange transportation prior to arriving, or you might find yourself waiting. |
Llano, TX |
KAQO |
| | New FBO building, competitive fuel prices. Several courtesy cars available. We ate at Cooper's BBQ and did not regret it a bit, except we ate too much. |
Longview, TX |
KGGG |
| | The main runway is huge--10,000 feet long and 150 feet wide! Longview Approach and Eastex Tower seem to be staffed by some very friendly folks. Excellent staff at Stebbins Aviation. Good courtesy car. We ate at a nearby BBQ house and had a good meal. Fuel is not particularly cheap, but I guess that is the price we pay for good facilities and service. |
Lufkin/Angelina County, TX |
KLFK |
| | Dated: 2011-08-10 Nice FBO run by the county. Linemen are knowledgeable and friendly. Very good restaurant in the terminal building, and they do a big lunch business. Restaurant does close at 1500, so don't be late. ILS to one runway and GPS to every runway. Runways and ramps are in good shape. |
Mena, AR |
KMEZ |
| | Mena is a beautiful little town and the origin of the Arkansas Skyline Drive. Mena Air Center is the only FBO with 100LL, though the airport is full of restoration and painting businesses. The FBO lobby used to be an airport restaurant, so it has lots of room with comfortable furniture and all the facilities and equipment a pilot needs. We borrowed the courtesy car, which blew plenty of cold air on a hot day, and took an abbreviated tour of the skyline drive, to include a stop in the Queen Wilhelmina state park lodge at the top of a hill. What a view! When you fly in, just be aware of high terrain south, west, and north of the field. Enjoy your visit to Mena, AR, a well-kept secret in western Arkansas. |
Merrill Field, Anchorage AK |
PAMR |
| | Merrill Field has been in Anchorage since time immemorial, and it is currently host to the largest assemblage of light aircraft in the entire world. Almost 1000 airplanes are parked there, with most being tailwheel, many of them Super Cubs, and many with Tundra tires. The staff at the airport manager's office is quite helpful, and their building is open 24 hrs with flight planning and restroom facilities. Transient parking is a bit limited, believe it or not, since not many of us fly up from the lower 48. Merrill Field has the least expensive fuel in Alaska, is tower controlled, and dead centered in the some of the busiest airspace on the planet. Don't come up here without being well prepared. Get the Alaska Supp, for instance...it substitutes for the A/FD in Alaska and has lots of relevant info about operations and airports from Washington state up the coast to Alaska. |

| | Very nice FBO facility. The CAF (that's Confederate Air Force for some of us who are less politically correct) Museum is nearby. Recommend you visit in the off season (winter) when more aircraft are present, because the CAF keeps most of its airplanes flyable and flying and on the airshow circuit during the summer. Nearby restaurants? The golden arches are the nearest. If someone knows of a good steakhouse in Midland or Odessa, please pass it along to me. |

| | Excellent city-run FBO with courtesy cars and a very helpful staff. Good facility, but they do close down in late afternoon. Call ahead to make sure they will be open. Just a mile or two down the road is the Clear Spring Restaurant--best onion rings I have ever had, and the fried shrimp is pretty good, too. Take the hint, your cholesterol will take a major hit just from driving by the place! New Braunfels features a number of other attractions, including the Smokehouse (pricey but excellent meal), tubing on the Comal River and floating on the Guadalupe River. Fall brings the Wurst Festival, in finest German style, but then pilots don't drink beer, so most of you probably wouldn't be interested anyway. |

| | New FBO building, friendly people. Courtesy car available. We ate at the Hichin' Post Cafe on the west side of town. Excellent and huge chicken fried steak (I had the gourmet version,) good staff. Cruise the town a bit and you will see some beautiful homes on the main drag on the east side of town. |

| | Very nice FBO, roomy facilities, ample ramp space. FBO staff is quite friendly. Courtesy car available. We ate at the recommended local restaurant and had a good, small town type of meal. |

| | Friendly folks at the FBO. No problem getting the courtesy car, and it took us to a great little restaurant called Bob's Pig Shop. Been there since the 1930s, and the sandwiches we had were terrific. After having a bite to eat we drove around town and found that Paul's Valley seems to be an inviting little town with lots of character, huge trees, and pretty homes. We wish we could have stayed longer. |

Plainview, TX |

| | Rocket Aviation now runs the FBO at Plainview, and they are clearly trying to provide good service at competitive prices. We did not use their courtesy cars, nor did we sample any of the local eating establishments, but we found the FBO facility to be clean, organized, and user friendly. Fuel price was a good deal less than you would pay at a nearby larger airport, and folks running the place just seemed to be pilot friendly. |

San Antonio International, TX |

| | Only the high price of avgas prevents Millionaire from drawing a 5 star rating. I mostly go to Millionaire, though I have used several other FBOs and all are good. San Antonio is a great destination for lots of reasons, and as a result it is also a large field with a fair amount of commercial traffic. The smart pilot has an airport diagram out in front of him/her prior to ground operations. |

Sedona, AZ |

| | The land of the Red Rocks is just beautiful! Red Rock Aviation is a good FBO, but they are not kidding about close down time in the evening...don't arrive late. The runway sits on top of a mesa, and slopes up to the northeast. Most folks prefer to land uphill and takeoff downhill as long as winds aren't too unfavorable. The only instrument approach comes in from the southwest because of high terrain northeast. On field is a good restaurant featuring a Thursday night all-you-can-eat crab leg special, and the Sky View Motel is within easy walking distance. Fuel prices were better than I would expect for a relatively remote, yet desireable destination. Enjoy your stay in Sedona! |

| | Very helpful people at the FBO; they made a courtesy car available after hours so we could enjoy ribs at Billy Boy BBQ in town. Fuel price was competitive and available as self serve. Use caution, the north south taxiway is not lit and centerline striping is faded. Taxiing after dark was an adventure, to say the least. |

Snyder, TX |

| | Wonderful, friendly county employees run the FBO, and are more than happy to provide the courtesy car. We tried a place called The Shack for dinner, and found it to be a bit rustic with excellent food and even better service. Worth going back to. As for the airport itself, use caution if you are in there after dark, the parallel taxiway is unlit. 17/35 is in good shape, and there is an unlit crosswind runway for those days when the wind is howling out of the west. 100LL is available off a truck and the price is competitive. The FBO closes at 1800 local, so don't be too late getting into town or you might miss an enjoyable experience. |

Sonora, TX |
KSOA |
| | Dated: 2009-02-07 Excellent runway, parallel taxiway available for all except south 500 ft. FBO: Recent change to management has put City of Sonora employees in charge, and they must respond to the airport for fueling or other needs. They were quite friendly and helpful when they arrived. FBO building open until 1700 local. No phone, no facilities once the door is locked, but a contact phone number is posted on the door. FUEL: 100LL and Jet A available. Hoses are located under ground level flush doors on the ramp in front of the FBO. Recommend you don't taxi over the doors. TRANSPORTATION: A courtesy car is planned, but as of January 2009 there is none. We were told no rental cars are available in town.. FOOD: Local restaurant co-located with a motel within walking distance just east of the south end of the runway. Staff was great, food was average. |

| | Dated: 2009-01-28 The big draw here is the Hard 8 BBQ. The restaurant keeps two golf carts parked on the ramp because it is half a mile away and you must cross US Highway 67. The FBO is small-maybe intimate is a better word. Fuel is self serve only and located west of the FBO. My good friend Rob Johnston provides flight instruction services at Stephenville and other airports in the vicinity. He is an excellent CFI and CFII, so give him a call if you are out in that area and need an instructor. |

| | Dated: 2009-02-07 Haven't tried any restaurants yet. FBO folks are great. The WASP museum in Hanger 1 on the east side of the field (walking distance) is a work in progress, and it is a good start toward honoring the ladies who flew for the Army Air Force in WWII. The WASP reunion in 2008 included a general aviation airlift from Fort Worth to Sweetwater so the ladies (38 made the trip) could see their museum. I was privileged to be a part of that airlift mission. |

| | Very reasonable fuel price, friendly municipal employees staff the FBO. Lots of ramp space, IFR approaches to every runway. Good courtesy car, and numerous restaurants within a few miles of the airport. Gray Approach handles traffic there, and you can raise them on 125.9 on the ground to pick up an IFR clearance, close a flight plan, etc. |

| | I am told the restaurant in the old terminal building has reopened, and the food is as good as it used to be. In addition, there is a small but growing aviation museum there now. Worth a trip to the tall pines of east Texas! |

| | Self serve fuel was reasonably priced. FBO next door was not associated with the self serve, and facilities were kind of minimal. They had a bathroom with the self serve, but no flight planning area or place to relax. Hope this airport, in this beautiful area with rolling wheat fields, finds a little money to upgrade facilities. |

| | I screwed up and limited myself to 5 stars in the ratings, but these guys deserve 6. Great fuel price, friendly service, good courtesy car, and a great little space museum in the terminal. Dennis Falasco runs a pretty good avionics and maintenance shop on the field (Omega). If you need a fuel stop, this is a pretty good choice. |

| 2010-12-06 | "I did my Private Pilot with Jake and Drew at Huffman Aviation, and I can't find enough good things to say about them. They worked with my schedule, which tended to be random and challenging to accommodate, but I finished in good time and passed the checkride the first time without a problem. I believe they had me well prepared for the check, and more importantly, for the real world of flying for every day afterwards."
| | Bill, Fort Worth |
| | 2011-03-22 | "Huffman aviation was the fourth flight training program I worked with. I moved three times (not recommended) during my training. Jake assessed my prior progress and we worked out a syllabus to finish off my PPL.
Splitting time with Jake and Drew allowed more feedback on my flying, as well as more flexibility for my schedule. Their checkride preparation was excellent. I was readier than I thought I was!
In the months since my checkride I have moved two times. This has required me to do club checkouts in St. Louis, MO and Fullerton, CA. At the conclusion of each of those checkouts the club CFI’s stated: “you’ve been trained very well”"
| | Rob, California |
| | 2011-03-22 | "Huffman Aviation was the ideal flight school for me. The entire staff is knowledgeable, friendly and passionate about aviation. Their excitement for flying makes learning a fun experience. All of the aircraft are impeccably maintained, and make you feel confident each time you fly. After completing my Private Pilot training, I felt 100% prepared for my check ride. In reality, the instructors had more than prepared me! I would recommend Huffman Aviation to anyone who wants to build a solid foundation and love for aviation.

I had always wanted to fly but probably like most people I never thought I would. At the urging from my girlfriend(wife), I took an introductory flight with Jake and I was hooked. On my first flight Jake showed me that you can actually fly backwards. (you will have to ask them how that’s done) Jake and Drew are both very knowledgeable instructors. One of the things I really appreciated is that whether I was flying with Jake or Drew, they were both on the same page as to what my training that day was. I made my first trip with passengers (my wife, her sister and brother-in-law) after I had received my private pilot certificate and felt completely confident in my abilities and knowledge. I would recommend Huffman Aviation to anyone that would like to learn to fly. I am currently training for my instrument rating with Jake and Drew and after that I’m sure I will find an endorsement or two to add. "
